About the Nedbank Learnership Program

Every year the Nedbank Group, Ltd offers young graduates and unemployed people from different communities in excess of 200 Nedbank Learnership programmes.

These Nedbank learnerships speak to the government’s National Skills Development Strategy to create skills and ease poverty and unemployment.

The Nedbank Group, Ltd is a bank holding company and one of the four largest banking groups in South Africa. Its principal banking subsidiary is Nedbank Ltd.

It has been listed on JSE Ltd since 1969 and on the Namibian Stock Exchange since 2007. The majority shareholder, owning 52% of the group, is Old Mutual plc.

The group consists of Nedbank Capital, Nedbank Corporate, Nedbank Business Banking, Nedbank Retail, Nedbank Wealth, and Central management functions in support of frontline businesses (incorporating the Rest of Africa). Services include wholesale and Retail Banking Services, Insurance, Asset Management and Wealth Management.

The Nedbank Learnership is available to those who have the necessary qualifications and include the Environmental Education, Training and Development Practice (EETDP) Learnership and Skills Programme at NQF level 5, which is a registered qualification and can be found on the SAQA website (Check the qualification on www.saqa.org.za). These accredited learnerships will take place in the agricultural, conservation, industry and local government sectors. You can contact Jonathon Wigley from the Partner Organization Wildlife and Environment Society of SA (WESSA) at jj@wessa.co.za for further information.

Learnerships consist of both theoretical and practical training which will be given at venues as stated by Nedbank. Learners will earn a monthly stipend for the duration of the learnership.

The Information Technology Learnership Programme

The Nedbank Learnership Programme is for a period of two years (24 months) and consists of:

  • Theoretical training will take place over the first 12 months of the learnership
  • Successful candidates will be housed in residence at the training provider while completing the academic component
  • Group Technology  will pay for learners’ class fees, books, and residential fees

Workplace Training

The remaining 50% of the training will be a 12-month practical workplace (on-the-job) component

  • All learners will be placed in Group Technology where they will be provided with the opportunity to practically apply what they have learned on Campus
  • Learners will receive a monthly allowance for the duration of the learnership

Once the learner has successfully completed both the theoretical (instructional) and practical (workplace) phases and submitted a final Portfolio of Evidence (POE) that has successfully undergone external verification, a National Certificate: Information Technology will be issued.
