Job Description
The successful incumbent will be doing the learnership under the Safety and Security directorate at the Metro Police and Traffic Services Department. It is situated at Metropolitan Police Training College, Observatory in Cape Town. This position offers a monthly allowance amounting to R4097.52.
The hiring department will look at the suitability of candidates in selecting the qualified incumbent. To be eligible for the Traffic and Metro Learnership in Road, Traffic and Law Enforcement, applicants must meet all the following entrance criteria below:
- Grade 12
- Must be willing to finish the required training
- Must have a valid code B driver’s license
- Must not have any criminal record
- Must be physically fit
- Trainees must finish successfully the further training and education certificate: Enforcement Skills Program and Road Traffic Law Enforcement SP4/2012
- Must have computer literacy
- Must attend all classes for the entire duration of the learnership which is 18 months

It is important to note that candidates who have been shortlisted may be subjected to a driving as well as a medical test as a way to prove that the applicant may do strenuous exercise. Furthermore, all applicants may be subjected to go through a fitness assessment. Every candidate may also be required to undergo fingerprint checks by the SAPS. All candidates may also be required to undergo a substance abuse check. Candidates will be subjected to the pass requirements stipulated by the college and the code of Conduct of the college.
It is not the City’s responsibility to offer a permanent position upon completion of the training, the qualified candidates will be subjected to extensive physical training while at the academy as well as training in line with the Ammunitions and Firearm Act.
