Ethekwini Municipality Learnership Programme 2021-2022

The Ethekwini Municipality, based in Kwazulu Natal, South Africa is offering 10 Learnership Programmes for prospective applicants.  These Learnership Programmes have been developed to provide artisanal training to unemployed youth residing in the municipality.

The Learnership Programme will provide prospective applicants with the training to pursue careers as mechanical workers, welders, electricians, carpenters, plumbers, bricklayers, air conditioning experts, motor or diesel mechanics, auto electricians and boilermakers.

The Ethekwini Municipality Development Programme runs for a period not exceeding 3 years, and would ensure that the beneficiaries are sufficiently trained to pursue a career as an artisan.

Please note that applications for the Ethekwini Municipality Learnership Programme will close on the 4 of June 2021.

Applications received after the closing date will not be considered for the Ethekwini Municipality Learnership Programme.

The Municipality is offering 10 Learnership Programmes in order to address the issue of youth unemployment in the Municipality.  These Learnership Programmes provide a path for prospective applicants to receive the necessary training in order to succeed as an artisan in various and diverse disciplines.

About the Ethekwini Municipality Learnership Programme

The Ethekwini Municipality Learnership Programme will provide prospective applicants with the training to pursue careers as mechanical workers, welders, electricians, carpenters, plumbers, bricklayers, air conditioning experts, motor or diesel mechanics, auto electricians and boilermakers.

The Ethekwini Municipality Development Programme runs for a period not exceeding 3 years, and would ensure that the beneficiaries are sufficiently trained to pursue a career as an artisan.

Candidates are required to meet the Ethekwini Municipality entry requirements in order to be considered for placement in the programme.  Their application must be fully completed and submitted with the requested supporting documentation.

Requirements

Kindly note that prospective applicants need to satisfy all the requirements of the  eThekwini Municipality Learnership Programme in order for their application to be considered.

The applicant should hold the following education related documentation:

  • A N2 training certificate, highlighting their relevant trade theory or,
  • A National Senior Certificate (NSC) with Mathematics and Physical/Engineering Science or,
  • A N6 training certificate or a National Technical Diploma (NTD) indicating either an S or an N stream.

Please note that:

  • Applicants should reside in eThekwini, as indicated with a certified copy of their proof of residence document.
  • Applicants should be South African citizens, as indicated with a certified copy of their ID card.
  • Applicants should fall within the ages of 18-30, which would qualify them as ‘youth workers’.
  • Applicants should currently be unemployed, at the time of their application.
  • Applicants should not have participated in any similar or related learnership programmes in the past.
  • Applicants should have a passion/interest in the learnership field that they have applied for.

Kindly note that applicants will take part in pre-assessment activities in order to ensure that they are a right fit for the Learnership Programme. The applicants are also expected to complete an apprenticeship programme alongside the pre-assessment activities, which will fall within Seta as well as the National Artisan Moderating Body criteria.

The practical training will also include an end of assessment formal artisan test to ensure the necessary skills for the trade have been obtained by the applicant.
