ABOUT THE COMPANY PROVIDING THE LEARNERSHIP:

The South African Navy is the South African National Defence Force’s (SANDF) naval warfare and is responsible for maintaining a military deterrent that is conventional, fishery protection, actively participating in counter-piracy operations, ensuring the maritime law enforcement is upheld, as well as participating in search and rescue.

The South African Navy is one of the most prestigious naval forces in Africa, operating many submarines, warships, auxiliary vessels, and patrol craft with their 7000+ personnel.

DETAILS ABOUT THE LEARNERSHIP PROGRAMME:

Location: South Africa
Duration: 2 years

The South African Navy Military is offering a skills development programme/ learnership programmes to young candidates as part of their Military Skills Development System.
The programmes offered are:
1) Submariners and Divers Skills Development Learnership
2) Combat, Engineering, Technical, and Support Skills Development Learnership
This programme is the main training programme required for candidates who wish to join the South African military. During the programme, the candidate will have the opportunity to serve in uniform as well as embark on full training and support in their chosen military occupation in one of the military’s various arms.

In the first year of their service, the candidate will receive military training as well as further functional training in a specific field, such as Support Services, Combat Operators, Submarine Operators, and more.

During the second year of their service, the candidate will be deployed and granted the opportunity to use their skills and knowledge in their work (this will be subject to the duration of the candidate’s functional operation.)

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS NEEDED TO APPLY:

Before applying, please ensure that you meet ALL of the following minimum entry criteria – failure to satisfy all the requirements will result in your application being disqualified:
General Requirements:

  • Must be a South African Citizen
  • Must NOT have Dual Citizenship
  • Must have completed Matric (NSC)
  • Must have matriculated no sooner than 2020
  • Must NOT have a criminal record
  • Must be medically fit in accordance with the standards and requirements in the SANDF
  • Must be single (preferable)
  • Must NOT be area bound

Requirements for Submariner and Diver:

  • Must be 18 to 22 years old (born between 1999 and 2003)
  • Must have completed Matric with a minimum of Level-4 for Mathematics and Physical Science
  • Must have an Admission Point Score (APS) of 20 to 24, excluding Life Orientation (applicable for Divers)
  • Must NOT have any disabilities
  • Must NOT be claustrophobic or afraid of heights
  • Must be willing to experience water activities (applicable for Submariner)
  • Must be a strong swimmer and pass the SA Navy swimming evaluation test (applicable for Diver)

Requirements for Combat, Engineering, Technical, and Support:
For candidates who only have a Matric/ Grade 12:

  • Must be between 18 and 22 years old and must have completed Matric with a minimum of Level-4 for Mathematics and Physical Science (applicable for Combat, Engineering and Technical)
  • Must be between 18 and 22 and must have completed Matric (applicable for Support)

For Graduate candidates, aged 18 to 26:

  • Must have completed Matric with a completed Advanced Diploma/ National Diploma/ Degree/ NQF-6, with Trade Test Certificate in Mechanical, Marine or Electrical Engineering
  • Must have completed Matric with a completed Advanced Diploma/ National Diploma/ Degree/ NQF-6, with Trade Test Certificate in Human Resource/Logistics/ Organization and Work-study/Sports management
