DETAILS ABOUT THE INTERNSHIP PROGRAMME:

Location: Johannesburg, Gauteng
Duration: 12 months

Caterpillar is offering a graduate internship programme in their Marketing/ Sales/ Product Support department within their EAME Distribution Division Johannesburg branch. The programme will commence from 1st July 2021- 30th June 2022 and will combine on-the-job learning with personal development and training.

The programme will not only give you practical work experience but also develop a personal network in the industry, allow you to experience teamwork that benefits everyone, as well as use a combination of skills and knowledge to tackle a challenging working environment. You will provide support to the division manager and team, as well as partake in projects and coordinate programmes.
Key Performance Areas of the Programme:

  • Ensuring that you contribute to projects that centre on parts operations process improvements (6 Sigma and gateway methodology/ Lean)
  • Extending your knowledge and growing your network within the company by connecting with internal partners and company dealers
  • Learning about the company’s processes, strategy, methodologies, and systems
  • Providing support to communications (internal and external) of the group
  • Potentially organising events, general meetings and large meeting logistics
  • Enabling services growth by leading and participating in data analytics projects
  • Supporting important Service Operations initiatives by developing software tools (mainly Excel)
  • Performing Dealer Service Process, Capability and Capacity work, which includes service coverage studies
  • Improving dealers’ quality, profitability, and efficiency by supporting their Service Capability and Service Business Reviews
  • Partaking in training and active support to the team with the aim of learning Service Profitability fundamentals
  • Learning about how to dig into the business plans of Caterpillar and Cat dealers with the aim of identifying sales events as well as regularly monitoring them to ensure that all sales targets are delivered. (You will achieve this by participating in the Sales and Operations Planning process with internal Cat teams and Cat dealers)
  • Participating in the analysis, identification, and resolution in assigned districts regarding product support performance capability gaps
  • Directing the development and continuous learning from your experience and knowledge of the latest technology
  • Achieving various levels of certifications by following the Parts Operations Curriculum
  • Providing support to division activities with the aim of promoting Cat Brand and Experience
  • Delivering specific business outcomes by leading analytics projects
  • Executing and managing automated and manual background data processes
  • Identifying opportunities for marketing and sales development with the aim of developing sales and product management analytics
  • Building visual tools and dashboards to aid users in developing action-oriented insights by accessing and using qualitative and quantitative data
  • Communicating Cat’s division initiatives, results and progress by tracking and generating reports as well as producing professional presentations
  • Building business reporting and tracking (monthly scorecard)

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS NEEDED TO APPLY:

Before applying, please ensure that you meet ALL of the following minimum entry criteria – failure to satisfy all the requirements will result in your application being disqualified:

  • Must have completed a Bachelor’s Degree in one of these fields: Statistics, Business, Economics, Finance, or Analytics- Engineering for Services Operations
  • Must be fluent in English
  • Must be fluent in a foreign language, such as German, Spanish, French, Arabic, Russian, or Other (advantageous)
  • Must have a Project Management certification (advantageous)
  • Must have excellent communication skills (oral and written)
  • Must have strong analytical tool skills
  • Must have excellent IT skills
  • Must be able to make recommendations based on data
  • Must have experience in one or more of the following: Power BI, Alteryx, SQL, MS Access, Python (preferable)
  • Must be methodical with their problem-solving approach using quantitative and qualitative methods
  • Must have excellent business acumen
  • Must have excellent interpersonal skills
  • Must have excellent customer skills and care
  • Must have excellent negotiation skills
  • Must be able to analyse and explain complex communication effectively
  • Must be able to work well in a team
  • Must be able to work with a diversity of people
  • Must be self-motivated
  • Must be responsible
