ABOUT THE COMPANY PROVIDING THE INTERNSHIP:

East Coast Radio, owned by Kagiso Media (Pty), is KwaZulu-Natal’s largest commercial radio station with over 5 million audience members. As one of South Africa’s largest radio stations, East Coast Radio is broadcasted from Mpumalanga KwaZulu-Natal as well as from SABC studios in Durban. They are a leading host within the province, putting on major events such as Durban Day, Toy Drives, and Big Walks. East Coast Radio also has many sponsorship partnerships with sports teams such as The Sharks, AmaZulu, Super Rugby outfit, as well as The Sunfoil Dolphins.

DETAILS ABOUT THE INTERNSHIP PROGRAMME:

Location: Umhlanga, KwaZulu-Natal
Duration: 12 months
Number of positions available: 1
Salary: basic stipend

East Coast Radio are inviting graduates to apply for the vacancy of “Graphic Designer Intern” within the marketing department. During the course of the 12 month programme, which will run from 1 July 2021 to 30 June 2022, interns will be responsible for the conceptualizing, designing, creating and delivering print and artwork for ECR.
Key performance areas of the programme:
1) Graphic Design:

Designing traditional media (including flyers, brochures, business cards, billboards etc)
Designing seasonal campaigns
Designing internal station messaging
Designing external client facing imaging
Designing marketing elements for Marketing collateral and digital platforms
(including social media, email newsletters, websites, invites, Press Ads, Billboards, Street posters in line with ECR’s CI manual)

2) Event design work:

Designing event programmes, event Instagram frames, campaign email signatures, client cards for gifts
Designing on screen creative for Media Partnerships, Events and activation
Designing and booking Press ads for all ECR events and activation
Designing digital elements for all ECR events and activation from Open files supplied
Understanding and interpreting creative briefs sent by Ogilvy
Tracking Press ads booked

3) Sales and Trade Marketing:

Creating and designing sales selling collateral
Creating and designing client invites, for ECR and Mediamark Trade Marketing
Refreshing Mediakit and Trade Presentation, and doing a monthly update on Mediakit and Trade Presentation
Conceptualizing new creative ways of design work for sales and Marketing

4) On-air and Promotional design:

Designing social media posters and cover images for on-air shows
Updating social media artwork each month
Updating show feature images each month
Creating templates for feature shows, presenters and shows
Tracking online creative posted by the Digital team

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS NEEDED TO APPLY:

Before applying, please ensure that you meet ALL of the following minimum entry criteria – failure to satisfy all the requirements will result in your application being disqualified:

Must have completed a Diploma or Degree qualification in Graphic Design
Must have a code 8 Driver’s License
Must be computer literate, with experience in MicroSoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint
Must have experience working with Mac computer systems
Must have experience working with Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop and InDesign
Must have experience with deep etching photos (for online and print)
Must be passionate about design and have good design skills
Must have knowledge of photography (advantageous but not essential)
Must have good communication skills (verbal and written)
Must be able to understand and interpret creative brief
Must be able to work in a team
Must be able to work under pressure
Must be able to meet deadline
Must have a positive attitude
Must pay close attention to detail
Must not be committed to other fields of study
